On September 23, 2026, the Quebec cannabis industry association (AQIC) stopped at Groupe Chanv in Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover for the Mauricie–Centre-du-Québec leg of its tour. The meeting came eight days after a leaders’ debate in which a Bécancour plant had been dismissed as a “pot business”.
In front of about a hundred partners and industry players, Dany, founder of Groupe Chanv, took part in a panel with Timothée Gauthier, president and CEO of Greentone, and Pierre Leclerc of the AQIC. He pointed out that the plant is also used to make building materials, textiles, topical products and food.
The industry asked the next government to treat it like any other economic sector: access to the public programs offered to farms and small businesses, a return of the legal age to 18, and a distribution network better suited to the market.
